Early Life
Lainey Wilson was born Lainey Denay Wilson on May 19, 1992, in Baskin, Louisiana. Her parents are Michelle, a schoolteacher, and Brian, a farmer. She has an older sister named Janna. Growing up, her family was deeply connected to country music, listening to artists like Glen Campbell and Buck Owens. In a 2021 interview, Lainey said, Country music for me and my family, it was more than music. We lived the words to those songs.
Lainey was raised on a farm in a small town of just 250 people. At the age of 9, after seeing a performance at the Grand Ole Opry, she was inspired to start writing songs and learning to play guitar.
