Lainey Wilson, the country music star who made her acting debut on Yellowstone, recently shared some exciting details about the final episodes of season 5. On the Chicks in the Office podcast, she hinted that the rest of the season will be well worth the wait.
Wilson, who played Abby, a musician with a growing romance with Ian Bohen’s character Ryan, praised Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan for boosting her music career.
Sheridan, known for his compelling Western stories, created the role of Abby specifically for Wilson after they became friends in 2018. “I just became friends with him, and I guess he thought maybe I could be an actress,” Wilson recalled.
Despite not seeing herself as an actress at the time, she eagerly embraced the opportunity to showcase her music.
Wilson’s music first appeared on the show in season 1, episode 2, helping her reach a larger audience. She realized the importance of the show’s soundtrack when fans started discovering her music through Yellowstone.
“I realized how important the soundtrack to that show really was and how many people really paid attention to the music on that show,” she said.
As season 5B of Yellowstone approaches its November 10 premiere, Wilson expressed uncertainty about her return. Speaking at the 2024 CMT Music Awards, she admitted she’d be surprised if she came back but hinted that Sheridan’s storytelling style might allow for anything. “He just has a beautiful way of bringing things back and letting things go,” Wilson said.
Despite her acting stint, Wilson remains focused on her music. “I will never not make songwriting my priority because the songwriting is what has given me all the rest of these opportunities,” she told Us Weekly in 2023.
As the final episodes of Yellowstone air on November 10 at 8 p.m. ET on the Paramount Network, fans can look forward to an exciting conclusion. Even if Wilson’s future on the show is uncertain, her impact on Yellowstone’s musical and Western legacy is clear.
