Kevin Costner has stirred things up by hinting that, despite saying goodbye to Yellowstone earlier this year, he feels there’s still more story to be told for both him and his character, John Dutton. In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Costner shared that Yellowstone was a “wonderful” part of his life, and while nothing is certain yet, he’s eager to see the story through to the end.
“Making Yellowstone has been a wonderful part of my life,” Costner said, adding, “Some things have a way of coming back around.” He noted that while he hasn’t “seen that dust trail heading my way,” he’s always been open to finishing what he started. “That story is not finished.”
What Did Kevin Costner Say Previously About ‘Yellowstone’?
In June this year, Kevin Costner posted a video on social media stating that he wouldn’t be returning to Yellowstone, despite months of speculation. Just hours after Paramount announced the air date for the final episodes, Costner confirmed he wouldn’t have time to film any part of the final season.
He explained that after spending 18 months working on his epic Western project, Horizon: An American Saga, he simply couldn’t continue with the series alongside its creator, Taylor Sheridan. While he loved working on Yellowstone, he made it clear he wouldn’t be coming back.
“I want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half working on Horizon and doing everything that it required, and reflecting on Yellowstone, that beloved series I love and know you love too, I’ve realized that I won’t be able to continue with Season 5B or beyond,” Costner said.
“It was something that really changed me. I loved it, and I know you did too. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. I’ve cherished the relationship we’ve built, and I’ll see you at the movies.”
However, Costner’s recent comments have reignited hope that John Dutton’s story may not be as over as once believed.
Yellowstone returns to Paramount on November 10th, with streaming on Paramount+ available the same day in Canada. For viewers in the U.K., the series will be available on the network’s streaming service the following day, November 11th, while releases in Latin America, Brazil, and France are scheduled for later in November.
