Yellowstone fans can relax—season 5 is on the way and will include some new faces, like country singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson.
In June, Deadline announced some changes to the Yellowstone season 5 cast. Along with Mo Brings Plenty (who plays Mo) and Wendy Moniz (Governor Lynelle Perry) being promoted to series regulars, four new cast members were added. One of them is Lainey Wilson, who confirmed her role at the Under the Big Sky Festival in Whitefish, Montana, over the weekend.
“I’ve got some news to share with y’all,” Lainey Wilson told the concert crowd. “I’m going to be in the next season of Yellowstone, and I’m really excited. I’ll be playing a musician named Abby, and I’ll get to share my music with a lot of people who watch the show.”
Lainey went on to say, “It’s a big deal. Thank y’all so much. Make sure to tune in on November 13 for the first episode. You’ll see my big ol’ head on the screen. Trust me, I can’t believe it either.”
Country music fans might remember that Lainey Wilson first rose to fame in 2016 with her debut album, Tougher, which quickly climbed the country charts. The Louisiana native continued her success with the Lainey Wilson EP (2016) and Sayin’ What I’m Thinking (2021). Most recently, she released a new song titled “Heart Like a Truck.”
When the news of her casting in Yellowstone was announced, Lainey Wilson celebrated by sharing a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram of herself at the Montana ranch.
Lainey won’t be the first Yellowstone cast member who’s also a successful musician. Actor Ryan Bingham, who plays Walker, is an award-winning country music singer. His music career spans over 15 years, and in 2009, he won an Oscar for Best Original Song with “The Weary Kind,” featured in the movie Crazy Heart starring Jeff Bridges.
