Lainey Wilson shared what she knows about the final episodes of Yellowstone season 5.
“What I’ve heard is that the rest of season 5 is going to be really great,” Wilson, 32, shared on the “Chicks in the Office” podcast on Friday, September 13. The country singer made her debut on Yellowstone in the season 5 premiere, playing a musician named Abby, who later has a romantic storyline with Ian Bohen’s character, Ryan.
Wilson also praised series creator Taylor Sheridan, saying he had “been so good to [her]” after featuring one of her songs in the soundtrack for season 1 of Yellowstone.
“He featured one of my songs in what I believe was season 1, episode 2, and that really helped introduce my music to a lot of people who enjoy that Western lifestyle,” she continued. “I had people come to my shows and say, ‘I found your music through Yellowstone.’ It made me realize how significant the show’s soundtrack is and how many people pay attention to the music.”
Sheridan, 53, created a character named Abby specifically for Wilson after they became friends in 2018. “I just became friends with him, and I guess he thought maybe I could act, I don’t know,” she said on “Chicks in the Office” on Friday. “I’ve been acting a fool my whole life, so that’s probably what it was.”
Although Wilson didn’t see herself as an actor at the time, she jumped at the chance to join the popular Paramount Network series when it was offered to her. “I knew if it was an opportunity to share my music on a bigger platform, I was 100% in, even though I didn’t know what the heck I was doing,” she said.
Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the head of a powerful ranching family in Montana. The first half of season 5 ended in January 2023, with the final episodes set to premiere on Sunday, November 10. However, Costner, 69, will not be in the new episodes after his departure from the series last year.
Wilson told reporters at the 2024 CMT Music Awards in April that she doesn’t expect to return for the second half of season 5. “I’d be shocked,” she said. “The way Sheridan writes his stories, he has a beautiful way of bringing things back and letting them go. So, we’ll see what happens.”
In 2023, Wilson told Us Weekly that she would always prioritize music over acting, even with her role on the Western drama series. “Songwriting is what has given me all these other opportunities,” she said.
Yellowstone season 5B premieres on Paramount Network on Sunday, November 10, at 8 p.m. ET.
